Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder visits Kuwait

Gerhard Schröder, former German Chancellor and Honorary President of the German Near and Middle East Association (NUMOV), visited Kuwait from 18 to 20 January 2017 heading a high-ranking economic delegation.

The programme entailed an audience with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim and the President of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ali Al-Ghanim. The excellent bilateral relations and deep appreciation of German industry were especially highlighted during the political talks. Kuwait expressed particular interest in technology transfer and German expertise in the fields of education (dual vocational training), health and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Gerhard Schröder, who is held in high esteem as a friend of Kuwait, emphasized the long-standing Kuwaiti commitment to German industry (e.g. Mercedes Benz) and called Kuwait an important strategic partner of Germany.
