Reception on the occasion of the Day of German Unity

On the occasion of the Day of German Unity, the German Ambassador to Kuwait, Frank Mann, hosted a reception at his residence on 9 October 2011 in the presence of many members of the German community of Kuwait as well as by a large number of official guests from politics, economy and culture. Musical interludes were provided by the German Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia.

9 October - 12 October, 2011 German Week in Kuwait

The German Embassy Kuwait and Kuwait University proudly presented a German Week from 9 October - 12 October, 2011. The German Week dealt with the "Kuwaiti-German partnership in the fields of technology, innovation, Science and Research". In addition, it highlighted the successful bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and Germany. Please see the attachment for further information.

Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia

Regional Tour of the renowned Youth Jazz Orchestra from North Rhine Westphalia

For the first time the German Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia had a tour through the Gulf Region. The orchestra visited the Emirates from 2 to 7 October 2011 and Kuwait from 8 to 10 October 2011 in the framework of its “Jazzing the Gulf” tour. During its tour the orchestra performed in various concerts and music sessions and got in contact with students and young musicians from the Gulf Region in music workshops. In Kuwait the orchestra performed on October 9, 2011 at the opening of the “German Week” organized by the German Embassy in collaboration with Kuwait University and a wide range of partners. In addition to this concert at Kuwait University the orchestra hold concerts at the American University Kuwait (AUK) and at the Holiday Inn Salmiya/Kuwait.

BSK student awarded with scholarship for German language course in Munich/Berlin and special guest of Women’s Football World Cup 2011 in Germany

On 10 April, 2011 German Ambassador Frank Mann and Volker Pfeiffer, head of the language department at the Goethe Institut Gulf Region in Abu Dhabi, awarded Halyna Zhmur, a young student who learns German at the British School of Kuwait, with a scholarship for a German language course during the Women’s Football World Cup which will be held in Germany this summer. During her stay in Germany she will also participate as a special guest in the opening ceremony of the Women’s Football World Cup in Berlin. Halyna Zhmur received this scholarship winning a worldwide writing competition by the Goethe Institut for the best work on the topic “How sports changed my life”.

Solidarity with the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan

In solidarity with the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011 and with the people of Japan the German Embassy had organized a charity concert at the German residence. on March 24, 2011. The concert by the Messila Chamber Orchestra was attended by over 170 people from the Kuwaiti, the international business and the diplomatic community. It was followed by a buffet dinner sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Hotel Kuwait.

German Ambassador paid a visit to the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Shuwaikh

The German Ambassador Frank M. Mann, together with the Director General of the  Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr. Abdulrazzak M. Al-Nafisi paid a visit to the Industrial Training Institute Shuwaik. Since 2002 the Institute  is supported and counselled by GIZ (former GTZ) Agency fo International Cooperation. The Cooperation is commissioned by PAAET.

International Higher Education Fair „KuwaitEdu 2011“

The 5th "KuwaitEdu" fair took place from 22.-24.02.2011 in Kuwait. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Goethe Institut (GI) were present at this fair and offered information on learning German and studying in Germany. The fair offered a unique opportunity to directly address questions and learn about possibilities on learning German and studying in Germany.

Academics from Kuwait discuss the security situation in the World and at the Arabian Gulf

On invitation by the Koerber-Foundation academics from Kuwait have participates in important conferences to discuss security issues in the world and in the arab region. Dr. Muna ALI, Professor for political science and international relations of the Kuwait University has participated in the 3rd Roundtable of Young Leaders (Munich Young Leaders 2011, February 3 - 6, 2011). This event which is organized in parallel to the Munich Security Conference brings together young leaders from the whole world and provides an opportunity to meet and to discuss with the participating high ranking politicians, who participate in the Security Conference.

German contribution at the Kuwait "Concours d'Elegance" nominated overall winner of the Concours

The "Concours d'Elegance" which ended on February 06, 2011 with a festive Gala Event nominated the contribution of a German private collector to be the best car of the event. His car, a Mercedes Benz 380 K built in 1934 convinced the jury in terms of conservation, technical condition and singularity.

Kuwait's Integrated Logistics Co

Presence of the German Ambassador in a loan agreement ceremony

In the presence of H.E. Frank M. Mann, the German Ambassador to Kuwait,  Kuwait's Integrated Logistics Co. and Germany's BHF-Bank officially signed a loan agreement for 13 million USD (KD 4 million) in the Sheraton Hotel on 2 February 2011. 

BHF-Bank is a medium sized German private bank with approx. 1500 employees and represented by an office in Abu Dhabi. The loan is backed by credit cover from the German Government. Integrated Logistics will use some of this loan to partly finance the purchase of equipment and a Terrex CC 8800-1 crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 3.200 tonnes from the German supplier, Terex Demag GmbH.

The German Ambassador attended "Al-Jahra Government's Festival Event"

On 02/01/2011, The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank Mann attended the "Al-Jahra Government's Festival Event" as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th Independence Day and 20th Liberation Day and the 5th Anniversary of the inauguration of the Emir, his highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Ambassador Mann was deeply impressed by the richness and diversity of the illustrated traditional and cultural performances and congratulated everyone involved for the successful event. As seen in the picture, the Ambassador was happy to participate in the festivities and perform in the tribal dance and expressed great gratitude.

The German- Kuwaiti Joint Economic Commission hold talks in Kuwait on December 13 and 14, in order to further expand and strengthen the successful economic relations between the two countries.

Ghorfa business delegation visits Kuwait from 30.10.10 to 02.11.10

A business delegation of the of the Ghorfa (Arab-German Chamber of Commerce Association) headed by Dr. Thomas Bach (president of the Ghorfa) visited Kuwait from 30.10.10 to 02.11.10. The delegation was received by high ranking officials of the government of the State of Kuwait and met Kuwaiti companies in the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The German Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Frank M. Mann, held a reception on the occasion of the visit of the Ghorfa delegation in the evening of 01.11.10.

Concert by Christian Schmitt and Tatjana Ruhland in the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah on 25th October 2010

German organ player Christian Schmitt and his partner Tatjana Ruhland, a German flute player, held a concert in the frame of the 325th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach in the Dar al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah on 25th October 2010. With a surprising and entertaining mix of flute and organ music the duo enthused the audience in the concert hall of the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah which was fully booked. The concert was organised by the German Embassy in Kuwait in cooperation with the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah. It was the second time for Christian Schmitt performing for the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah after his first concert in Kuwait in October 2009. Delegation of German companies from health sector visits Kuwait on 25./26.10.2010

A delegation of German companies from the health sector headed by Dr. Bernard Veltrup, representative of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, visited Kuwait from 25th to 26th October 2010. The delegation met with Kuwaiti companies and officials in the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as in the Kuwait Ministry of Health. Furthermore, the delegation paid visit to several public and private hospitals. The German Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Frank Mann, invited the delegation as well as numerous important local companies from Kuwait's health sector to a reception in his residence on 26th October 2010.

Reception on the occasion of the Day of German Unity

On the occasion of the German National Day a reception took place at the German Residence on 3 October 2010. Among approximately 700 guests many German expats as well as a lot of Kuwaiti invitees in the range of politics, culture and commerce attended the event.

German Ambassador presents Letter of Credentials

On August 9, 2010 in Bayan-Palace, the German Ambassador to the state of Kuwait Frank M. Mann presented his letter of credentials to H.H. the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. On this occasion H.H. the Amir and the German Ambassador reviewed the excellent relations which exist between the State of Kuwait and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Jazz Concert in the Residence

Nidia Ortiz and Vladislav Sendecki charmed the audience during a private concert in the residence of the German Ambassador on 27 April 2010. Both are among the stars of the "Gulf Jazz Festival" which took place for the fifth time in Kuwait from 28 until 30 April 2010. The German Embassy in Kuwait was one of the main sponsors of the event.

German Embassy participates in Global Tree Day

On the initiative of the "International Renewable Energy Organization" (IREO) representatives of the diplomatic corps in Kuwait planted several trees in the Shuwaikh public garden on 11 April 2010. The German tree was planted by Deputy Head of Mission Beatrix Kania. With this initiative, IREO wants to promote awareness for the issue of renewable energy in Kuwait. The project was supported by the Public Authority for Agriculture.

German week in Kuwait attracts many visitors

"Discover Germany" was the motto of the German week which the German Embassy in Kuwait organized for the first time together with the German National Tourism Office.

Germany was at the center of two events in the biggest shopping mall in Kuwait, the Avenues Mall. Visitors could enjoy the cultural heritage of Germany in the exhibition "German UNESCO World Heritage Sites". Dean and Deluca showcased German products and let visitors enjoy the culinary delights of Germany. The German National Tourism Office provided information on Germany as a travel destination in a roadshow. A reception at the German Ambassador's concluded the series of events.

Bavarian Minister of State Visits Kuwait

The Bavarian Minister for Federal and European Affairs, Mrs Emilia Müller, visited Kuwait from 28 until 29 March 2010. Bavaria is one of the sixteen federal states of Germany.

Gala Dinner at the German Residence

Amassador Dr. Worbs hosted a Gala Dinner on March 2 to honour 90 INJAZ volunteers.

Members of the German business community and a number of media representatives were also present. INJAZ Kuwait, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, strives to inspire and prepare the youth of Kuwait in order to succeed in a global economy.

German business delegation visits Kuwait

An economic delegation from the German health sector visited Kuwait from January 31 until February 1. During the visit, the companies got first hand information about business opportunities in the health and medical sector in Kuwait.

Exhibition "Mosques in Germany" opened in the Grand Mosque

On 8 December 2009, the Undersecretary in the Awqaf Ministry, Dr. Adel Al-Falah, and the German Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Michael Worbs, jointly opened the exhibition "Mosques in Germany" by the German photographer Wilfried Dechau in the Grand Mosque.

Wilfried Dechau travelled through Germany during the past year in order to capture places of worship of Islam in Germany in their urban context: His photos show the interior of the mosques, Friday prayer, imams, children, men and women.

The exhibition was opened to the public until 15 December 2009 in the Grand Mosque.

Seminar on the collapse of the Eastern Bloc in Central Europe and its international dimension

The German, Hungarian, Polish and Austrian Embassies organized in cooperation with the Kuwait Diplomatic Institute, the College of Social Sciences of Kuwait University and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation a seminar on the collapse of the Eastern Bloc in Central Europe and its international dimension in the Kuwait Diplomatic Institute on 9th November 2009.

Bayt Abdullah Charity event held at German Ambassador’s residence

Under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Michael Worbs, the German Ambassador to Kuwait, the German Business Council GBCK, and GLOK the German Speaking Ladies of Kuwait, together organized an event on November 5th 2009 at the ambassador’s residence to raise funds for Bayt Abdullah (KACCH) in Kuwait.

A large number of dignitaries, decision makers and members from diverse communities in Kuwait graced the event, that started by a piano concert, followed by a seated dinner and an exclusive raffle The proceeds raised from this event will go to support the building of a specialized center that provides medical care for children suffering from cancer, a children's hospice "Bayt Abdullah".

The event was a great success with proceeds amounting to 6,000.-- KWD being donated to „Bayt Abdullah“.

20 Years since the Fall of the Wall

On 02.11.09 the German Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Michael Worbs, together with the Hungarian and Austrian Ambassadors as well as the Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Mr Bader Al Rifai, held the opening ceremony for a joint exhibition project in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the dismantling of the Iron Curtain between Hungary and Austria and the subsequent Fall of the Berlin Wall.

The two exhibitions "Escape to the Freedom: Dismantling the Iron Curtain and the Miracles in Central Europe 1989" and "From the Peaceful Revolution to German Unity" were shown in Hall No. 6 at the Kuwait International Fairgrounds in Mishref from 02.11. to 05.11.09.

The Arirang-Quintett in Kuwait

The Arirang-Quintett, a group of young wind instrument players that comprises members of the "Junge Deutsche Philharmonie", visited Kuwait from 03.10. to 05.10.09. The quintet hold a workshop at  the American University of Kuwait (AUK) on 03.10.09, gave a concert on the occasion of the embassy's national day reception on 04.10.09 and performed an additional concert at the AUK on 05.10.09.

BSK Becomes the First Official German "Partner School" in Kuwait


On behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institute, German Ambassador Dr. Michael Worbs, awarded the status of official "Partner School" of Germany to The British School of Kuwait (BSK) on 4 June, 2009. In a short ceremony, Director Vera Al-Mutawa, Principal Paul Shropshire and Ambassador Worbs unveiled the "Partner School" badge in the school reception. BSK students studying German recited German poems and sang German songs.

Charity Evening at the German Residence

Under the auspices of Ambassador Dr. Michael & Mrs. Elza Worbs GLOK (German-Speaking Ladies of Kuwait) organized a charity evening at the German Residence on 14 May 2009. 

The event was a great success with proceeds amounting to 4,000.-- KWD being donated to the German "Welthungerhilfe".

Ifa exhibition „Zeitsprung – Leap in Time“

Under the Patronage of the German Ambassador, Dr. Michael Worbs, and her Excellency Scheikha Fariha al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the exhibition "Zeitsprung – Leap in Time" was opened at Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah on March 3, 2009. The exhibition presented photographs by Erich Salomon and Barbara Klemm that are outstanding examples of German press photography. It  run from March 3 until March 12 2009.

International Higher Education Fair

Under the patronage of the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, H.E. Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Sabah, the 3rd "KUWAITEDU" Exhibition was held from 17-19 February 2009 in Kuwait. German Universities were represented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In addition, Baden Württemberg International (bw=i), the Agency for International Economic and Scientific Cooperation, represented Universities and other scientific institutions in the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Numerous interested persons visited the German booth to get information about studies and scholarships at German Universities.

Germany To Be Included In Ministry's Scholarship Program

The Undersecretary of Higher Education, H.E. Sheikha Professor Dr. Rasha Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and H.E. the German Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Michael Worbs, acting on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), signed on 5 February 2009 a Memorandum of Unterstanding on a scholarship program for undergraduate studies of Kuwaiti students in Germany.

NATO visit to Kuwait

Two German ships of the German Navy, the FGS „Karlsruhe“ and the supply vessel „Rhön“ were in Kuwait from 4 – 9 November 2008 in the framework of a long planned NATO visit. Both German ships belonged to the „Standing maritime Group 2“ of NATO.

Kuwait is working closely together with NATO in the „Istanbul Cooperation Initiative“.

The visit ended on 9 November 2008 with an exercise in which US-American, German and Kuwaiti Navy ships were participating. Together with other representatives of the Diplomatic Corps the German Ambassador, Dr. Michael Worbs, attended the manoeuvre on board the German frigate „Karlsruhe“.

Highlight of this NATO exercise with the Kuwaiti Navy were the searching of a ship by Special Forces of the Kuwaiti Navy, a simulated attack of the NATO vessels by four aircrafts of the Kuwaiti Air Force as well as a shooting exercise with a artificial target at sea.

All participants looked favourably upon the excellent co-operation between NATO and the Kuwait Naval Forces.

The NATO navel formation continued its journey to Qatar after successful completion of the exercise.

Karlsruher Konzert - Duo

Classical Concert at the Ambassador's residence

On October 9, 2008 a classical concert took place at the German Ambassador's residence. The two German musicians „Karlsruher Konzert - Duo“ performed compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Johannes Brahms.

More than 100 invited guests enjoyed this musical event.
